How does Mission Fed give back to the community?

July 20, 2018 | Randy Tindell

Credit unions are different from other financial institutions because we are not-for-profit financial cooperatives. Unlike for-profit banks that are responsible for both making money for stockholders and taking care of their customers, Mission Fed’s shareholders are our members—so our focus is on serving them. If you’re looking for a San Diego bank or financial institutions that takes care of its customers and gives back to the local community, try Mission Fed. We have made giving back to members and the local community we all call home a priority. We believe in putting people before profit, and our community involvement reflects that mission.

Mission Fed started in 1961 as a credit union for the educational community. In 2003, we expanded our membership to include all San Diegans, but Mission Fed maintained its commitment to the educational community, local nonprofits and the San Diego community at large. In service to the educational community, we’ve created programs that give back to local schools, students and teachers. Our award-winning Mission 2 $AVE Program helps students at 51 local schools and youth groups learn about saving and money management. Through our Mission for Our Schools Donation Program, we offer a $25 no-strings-attached donation to a participating school of your choice when you open a Mission Fed Checking Account and mention the program. As a thank you for participating in giving back to San Diego, we’ll also reward you with $25.

While our commitment to education remains strong, we’re also focused on giving back to other San Diego nonprofits. Mission Fed is an involved community partner in San Diego County, serving our area through more than 200 award-winning Community Relations programs. Whether it’s our College Scholarship Partnerships, Employee Engagement Activities or Community Events, we believe in creating programs that benefit San Diego. And, much like Mission for Our Schools benefits local education, we offer a way to benefit local nonprofits, too. When you open a new Checking Account and mention our Mission for Nonprofits Program, we’ll donate $25 to the participating nonprofit of your choice. We’ll also reward you for joining us and giving back with a $25 gift to you for participating. We’re passionate about our community, and we’re excited to donate to local nonprofits on behalf of our members.

If you’re looking for a San Diego credit union you can feel good about, try us—all San Diegan are welcome. Together we can support and give back to the community we all call home. Check out our benefits online or stop by and discover the Mission Fed difference today.
