Celebrating 36 Years, Mission Fed ArtWalk Adapts for a Virtual Experience

San Diego’s oldest annual fine arts exhibition goes virtual this year on December 5 showcasing musicians, dancers and artists from around the world

SAN DIEGO (November 25, 2020) – Mission Fed ArtWalk announces its return this year with a virtual experience beginning Saturday, December 5. Instead of a weekend-long event, this virtual experience is running through Thursday, December 31. This year marks 36 years of the premier fine arts festival which brings visual and performing arts to the historic San Diego community. With live art shows canceled for most of 2020, Mission Fed ArtWalk Virtual Edition serves as a symbol of hope for the community by providing a platform for artists and creatives to showcase their work during a time when many have been unable to do so.

This month-long arts and culture experience will feature around 100 local, national and international artists including both familiar faces and new creatives. Hosted on one convenient platform, attendees will have the opportunity to purchase one-of-a-kind art directly from the creators while enjoying a selection of videos created by the artists discussing their creative process. There is something for all ages, including an art activity for kids led by ArtReach San Diego, a nonprofit organization aimed at increasing equity in visual arts education in K-8 schools throughout San Diego County by delivering free or low-cost workshops to schools that have no other resources for art.

“We are thrilled for the return of the 36th annual Mission Fed ArtWalk and look forward to bringing a fresh experience to this year’s virtual event,” said Sandi Cottrell, director of ArtWalk San Diego. “COVID19 has been devastating to the art festival world, threatening the livelihoods of many and we aim to continue supporting artists and making art accessible to all, especially during this difficult time.”

A celebration of both visual and performing arts, Mission Fed ArtWalk Virtual Edition will kick off with a broadcast with opening statements by Debra Schwartz, CEO of Mission Federal Credit Union, followed by a selection of performances. “Mission Fed has been the proud title sponsor of this art festival for the last 12 years. We strongly believe arts and culture are critical to the positive health and well-being of our region and we are delighted to debut San Diego’s largest and longest-running art festival as a virtual event,” said Schwartz.

Throughout the remainder of the month, people can browse the art collection and purchase art directly through the virtual platform. As the largest and longest running arts festival in Southern California, the event will showcase every medium of art including painting, sculpture, glass work, photography, fine jewelry and more.

Following the success of their most recent exhibit, ArtWalk @ Liberty Station, Mission Fed ArtWalk Virtual Edition offers artists the opportunity to showcase their work across the country through an online art gallery that will be on display for the remainder of the year.
