Mission Fed supports education in the San Diego community
Mission Fed JA Finance Park
This high-tech facility for high school students takes “reality-based” learning to a new level by placing students in authentic, real-world scenarios, where they take control of their financial decisions. This financial education experience allows students to imagine who they want to be, while providing hands-on tools to plan for their future and reach their full career potential. In addition, Mission Fed is one of the businesses at McGrath Family JA BizTown for elementary school students, where each student (or, citizen of the town) has a job for the day, participates in business and town meetings, gets paid, manages a checking account and more.
Kids Free in October
Mission Fed partnered with the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park for Kids Free in October. Children ages 11 and younger receive FREE admission to both the Zoo and Safari Park all month long. Our sponsorship allows San Diego schools to enjoy educational field trips to the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park without having to spend valuable funds from their budget.
Max Out My Class with MAX 105.7 FM
Every Tuesday from September 15, 2015 through June 4, 2016, Mission Fed and MAX 105.7 FM will visit winning K-6 classrooms with a $200 gift card for the teacher to use for classroom supplies, as well as prizes for the students. The previous Max Out My Class campaign ran from October 1, 2014 through June 6, 2015.
Mission Fed Back-to-School Drive
In partnership with SAY San Diego, we collected school supplies at all Mission Fed branch locations during the month of August. Enough supplies were collected to fill 1,000 backpacks for children in need at schools throughout San Diego County. In addition, local teachers were able to come in and gather some of the extra supplies for their classrooms!
San Diego County Fair Teacher Appreciation Days
To thank teachers for the wonderful work they do in the community, Mission Fed supported Teacher Appreciation Days on June 19 and 26 at the San Diego County Fair. Teachers could show their school ID at any of our branch locations and receive a pair of tickets for free admission to the fair on either of these days.
Mighty 1090 Read with a Pro
Mission Fed sponsored Mighty 1090’s Read with a Pro contest that highlights the importance of reading to elementary school students. Ms. Navarro’s classroom read the most pages during the campaign, and won a special visit from Padres player Cory Spangenberg on June 2.
Mission Federal ArtWalk
San Diego’s premier arts and cultural event in Little Italy offers a weekend filled with art, music and food, as well as interactive activities for families at KidsWalk. ArtWalk activities help to support ArtReach, a program that strives to increase access to visual arts education in K-6 schools.
2015 Farmers Insurance Open Support Our Schools (S.O.S.) Program
We were proud to sponsor this fundraising vehicle for schools that sold discounted Farmers Insurance Open tickets and retained $20 of each $30 ticket sold. Over the course of its history, the S.O.S program has generated more than $7 million for local schools from elementary to college.
San Diego History Center
During the Ingenious! The World of Dr. Seuss exhibit from November 22, 2014 to January 3, 2016, a $2 discount is available for mentioning Mission Fed when purchasing admission. The San Diego History Center provides education and tells the diverse story of our region—past, present and future.
