This month, Mission Fed celebrates 55 years of serving our members and the San Diego community. Since we opened our doors in 1961, Mission Fed has always combined financial soundness with member service.

With some members and Mission Fed employees dating back more than 30 years, we thought it would be fun to look at where we started, what’s changed over the last 55 years and a look at what’s to come.

Thirty years in the financial services industry has taught me the importance of building relationships and maintaining them. Recently, Mission Fed had the opportunity to speak with our school superintendent partners about how our continued relationship helps to support schools, students’ futures and what being a partner really means. Our relationship building doesn’t end there. With hundreds of community partners, Mission Fed continues to expand our work in the community.

Because credit union members are owners, credit unions focus on customer service and doing what’s right for the membership. Traditional banks serve both their stockholders and their customers because they have a for-profit business model. Credit unions serve just our member-owners because we have a not-for-profit model, responding to members with lower interest rates on loans and credit cards and generally higher dividends on savings accounts. Banking with a credit union also supports the local community and nonprofits. Get started with Mission Fed today!

Credit unions came into existence to provide an ethical, local, customer-focused alternative to big banks to meet member financial needs. Mission Fed continues the credit union focus by building successful financial moments with members through ethical business practices, competitive products and services and community support. Winning the 2015 Better Business Bureau Torch Award in Marketplace Ethics is a Mission Fed Moment we can proudly share with our members. Thank you for your support and business!

Take pride in banking with a credit union that not only gives back to members through our $1 Million Mission Fed Money Match, but to organizations like the Living Coast Discovery Center, City of Hope, Urban Corps of San Diego, Father Joe’s Villages and Girl Scouts San Diego. Mission Fed is dedicated to serving members and the community by sponsoring free local events like Mission Federal ArtWalk.

With more than 25 local branches to serve your needs, Mission Fed is the largest, locally based financial institution exclusively serving San  Diego County. Because we are a great union that was founded not for profit, but for service, we’re able to offer low Auto Loan, Home Loan and Credit Card rates to our members. And because we’re focused on San  Diegans and our community, we have promotions throughout the year that put money back in your pocket and into local nonprofits.
