Mission Fed is dedicated to supporting the San Diego community. We partner with local organizations to give back and create positive experiences for San Diegans, while helping nonprofits and other philanthropic groups improve our community. Check out our Events Calendar for upcoming events and read below to see where Mission Fed will be in the community this fall.

Mission Fed kicks off the fall with three ways that give back to San Diegans.

1. The Jacobs and Cushman San Diego Food Bank’s Food 4 Kids Backpack Program:

Did you know that when children participate in programs that provide them with food for a weekend, the children will experience increased self-esteem, improved behavior at school, better academic performance, and increased interest in their classes and other school activities?

Throughout the month of September, Mission Fed is partnering with ABC 10 in the fight against child hunger by supporting the Jacobs and Cushman San Diego Food Bank’s Food 4 Kids Backpack Program. The Food 4 Kids Backpack Program provides weekend food packages to chronically hungry elementary school students from low-income households who are at risk of hunger over the weekend when free school meals are unavailable.

Help make a difference and visit one of our Mission Fed branches to pick up a #Food4Kids Apple Lapel Pin for a minimum donation of $5, while supplies last, or donate online at www.sandiegofoodbank.org/donate/. Each $5 donation provides a weekend food-filled backpack to a local child. Together we can make a real difference in the fight against child hunger!

2. San Diego Museum Council’s Kids Free in October:

This October, the San Diego Museum Council and ScholarShare present Kids Free in October, which provides San Diegans and tourists alike the opportunity to visit more museum destinations than ever before. In its seventh year, this annual program provides free admission for kids 12 and under at 43 art, cultural, and science museums in San Diego County. Mission Fed is proud to be a sponsor of this year’s Kids Free in October event. Enjoy two free kids admissions with every one paid adult admission. See a list of participating museums at www.sandiegomuseumcouncil.org and stop by any Mission Fed Branch to pick up your free kids coupons.

3. San Diego Zoo and Safari Park Kids Free in October:

Calling all kids! October is Kids Free Month presented by Mission Fed at the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park! All month long, children 11 years and younger receive free admission when accompanied by a paying adult. Plus, children and their families can enjoy special animal encounters and activity booths each weekend in October. Find out more about this special event by visiting zoo.sandiegozoo.org.

There’s a lot to do this fall in San Diego! Visit any Mission Fed Branch to make a donation to the Food 4 Kids Backpack program and then enjoy the San Diego Zoo or Safari Park and many wonderful San Diego museums for Kids Free in October. I hope to see you at our San Diego Zoo and Safari Park Kids Free in October kickoff event on Sunday, October 1 at the San Diego Zoo.
