The Mission Fed Difference—Supporting Local Nonprofits

As the largest locally based financial institution exclusively serving San Diego, Mission Fed is proud to support the San Diego community and local nonprofits throughout the year. And as a San Diegan, my family and I take pride in banking with a credit union that not only gives back to members through our $1 Million Mission Fed Money Match, but to organizations like the Living Coast Discovery Center, City of Hope, Urban Corps of San Diego and Father Joe’s Villages.

Mission Fed began in 1961 with 12 public school employees, and a mission to focus on service, which doesn’t mean just serving our members with low loan rates and easy access to products. It means serving the community and contributing to the growth of San Diego, which led to Mission Fed’s Mission for Nonprofits Program.

Mission for Nonprofits allows us to give back to the community on behalf of you, our member. We’ve provided grants to organizations such as the San Diego Zoo Global, a conservation organization dedicated to the science of saving endangered species worldwide, to assist in their animal research efforts. We also partner with the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park, offering free kids’ days in October, and sponsor Mission Federal ArtWalk, a free community art festival, for 8 years.

As a former Girl Scout, I was thrilled when Mission Fed partnered with Girl Scouts San Diego and their mission of building girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place. Girl Scouts in grades K-12 learn financial literacy and get real-life experience through the world’s largest girl-led business—the Girl Scout Cookie Program. Starting this month Girl Scouts will be selling cookies at select branches and dates to earn their Financial Literacy Badge. Keep an eye out for the schedule on our Facebook page.

It’s easy to feel proud when banking with Mission Fed. Mention Mission for Nonprofits when you open a Mission Fed Checking Account, and we’ll give you $25 and make a $25 donation to an organization of your choice based on our list of community partners. Visit Mission for Nonprofits to search our list of organizations and to see program details.

You’re invited to get involved and give back to San Diego with us at Mission Fed Community Events like Finish Chelsea’s Run and Beach Clean-Up days. Visit Community Events to see a calendar of upcoming events throughout the county and take action with us to contribute to local organizations and build a better community together. And watch Our Community Story to learn more about our mission to give back.
