5 ways to enjoy a San Diego adventure

August 10, 2018 | Sreeni Rao

In San Diego, there are plenty of ways to enjoy the last few weeks of summer. Our beautiful weather, incredible landscape and fantastic culture all combine to create endless opportunities for fun. Here are five ways to take advantage of being a tourist in your town.

  1. Head out to Coronado Island
Coronado Island is well known for its beauty, history and incredible sprawling beaches. To enjoy the trip even more, take the ferry to the island and grab a souvenir in the charming downtown area before heading to Coronado Beach.
  2. Try your hand at surfing
Have you always wanted to learn how to surf? Now’s your chance! Find some surf lessons at your favorite beach and invite your family and friends to join you. If you discover you’re pretty good at it, you may even want to buy a surfboard at one of our local San Diego surf shops.
  3. Enjoy a game
Nothing beats cheering on your favorite San Diego sports teams in person! Check out a San Diego Padres baseball game, a San Diego State Aztecs football game or a San Diego Sockers soccer. You’re sure to have a blast at any of these games. Check their websites for dates and times.
  4. Treat the kids to a trip to the zoo
The San Diego Zoo is an impressive 100-acres—one of the largest zoos in the nation. Its collection of endangered and rare animals is of particular interest to many visitors, as are the series of trails—including the Hippo Trail, Monkey Trail and Tiger Trail—winding through the zoo. If you have young kids, consider the guided bus tour to avoid tired little feet. Or you could buy a cold treat near Spanish Village and enjoy the museums and attractions adjacent at Balboa Park after you leave!
  5. Explore the trendy Gaslamp Quarter
Wander blocks of Victorian buildings and check out trendy galleries, shops and restaurants. This popular evening destination offers plenty of ways to spend your money year round, but it also plays host to a number of special events throughout the year. Take a look at what’s happening when you prepare to head down.

Just like these local favorites, Mission Federal Credit Union is also a San Diego staple. We’re the largest, locally based financial institution that exclusively serves San Diego County. And since we first began in 1961 at a borrowed school desk at the San Diego County Board of Education office, we’ve supported the local community and San Diego nonprofits and schools.
