When I was growing up, my parents both had jobs that helped people.
My mom was the manager of a family owned and operated shoe store in our neighborhood, just a mile from our home. The founder had come to the US from Germany when he was a young man, and had learned shoemaking and shoe repair from his father. Mom was the first non-family member to manage the store, which was a big honor! By that time they carried national brands, but they were still very well known for custom fitting, especially for children who had physical disabilities. She took a lot of pride in her work.
My dad was a regional service representative for an insurance company.
