Press Releases

The like-minded credit union and pro ball player have a shared commitment to the community where we live, work and play

SAN DIEGO, CALIF. (Aug. 1, 2025) – Mission Federal Credit Union (Mission Fed), the largest member-owned, not-for-profit, full-service financial institution exclusively serving San Diego County, is announcing a collaboration and multi-year agreement with Jackson Merrill, the San Diego Padres’ super star and budding franchise staple.

This collaboration is rooted in community well-being, as the duo teams up for financial success on and off the field to benefit the greater San Diego region. Partnership elements include giving back to the community through initiatives for the region’s youth, as well as through pet and animal welfare programs. Future items include a financial education series featuring Merrill, autographed giveaways and more.

“I want to continue to be a part of giving back to the San Diego community,” said Padres outfielder Jackson Merrill. “My values align with Mission Federal and I’m excited to work with them to make a positive impact.”

A rising talent in Major League Baseball and runner-up for 2024 National League Rookie of the Year is building on an impressive inaugural season in which he hit .292 with 24 home runs, 90 RBIs and 16 stolen bases. Earlier this season, Merrill signed a nine-year contract extension with the San Diego Padres that begins in 2026, extending through the 2034 season.

“This is an exciting time for Mission Fed and our members. We feel this collaboration is built on both performance and integrity, and we wholeheartedly welcome Jackson Merrill to our Mission Fed family,” said Doug Wright, president and chief executive officer at Mission Fed. “We look forward to working together to support our community and get the word out about financial empowerment.”

Wright added, “Creating hope and building success for San Diegans is what we do at Mission Fed. Jackson embodies that same spirit, and this partnership is a powerful way for us to achieve our shared vision.”

As part of its ongoing commitment to the San Diego community, the credit union gave $1.2 million back to the community in 2024, plus committed an extra $500,000 to nonprofit organizations through its “Community is Everything” fund during a time when critical funds are needed. Mission Fed is also a Proud Sponsor of the San Diego Padres, and currently in a multi-year sponsorship deal.
