Mission Fed has a long history of community involvement, giving time, treasure and talent to education and nonprofit organizations in the communities where our members live and work. Sometimes our community partners generously send their thanks in the form of awards, which we are honored to accept on behalf of our membership.

Awarded by DepositAccounts.com, the recognition evaluates the financial health of over 10,000 banks and credit unions in the United States once per quarter. To determine bank ranking and recognition, DepositAccounts.com grades each institution on a number of factors, including capitalization, deposit growth, and loan-to-reserve ratios. Mission Fed ranked # 29 of 5,321 NCUA Insured Rank Credit Unions and had the top rating of all CUs in San Diego County.

Mission Fed received the highest rating attainable from BAUERFINANCIAL (the Nation’s Bank and Credit Union Rating Firm for over a quarter of a century) based on the overall financial picture of our institution. Earning a 5-Star rating indicates that Mission Fed is one of the strongest credit unions in the nation and represents a solid recommendation by BAUERFINANCIAL.

For the sixth consecutive bi-annual year, Mission Fed was awarded the recognition of the 2019 Peter Barron Stark Companies’ Award for Workplace Excellence. The award is a prestigious honor presented to companies who utilize its employee opinion survey program and exceed an overall favorable response of at least 80 percent. Winning the Award for Workplace Excellence solidifies the belief that our employees are a significant part of Mission Fed’s success. This workplace environment and culture is what allows our team to offer members the exemplary customer service that builds long-lasting relationships.

Mission Fed joined the North County Philanthropy Council (NCPC) at the 2019 Volunteer Awards to honor the men and women from NCPC members’ organizations and companies who give their time, treasure and talent to help strengthen and enrich our North County communities. With this, one of our very own Board Members, Dr. Lupe Buell, was nominated and presented with the Certificate of Commendation from the County of San Diego, Fifth District. Lupe Holguin Buell, PhD has served as a volunteer Board Member for Mission Fed for over 30 years and passionately addresses the diverse financial needs of our local community through scholarships and financial education along with the financial inclusion accomplishments of our Hispanic Advisory Committee.

Dr. Buell also received the 2019 herMANA of the Year Award from MANA de San Diego for her years of volunteering in scholarship committee, board member, and co-Chair of Latina Success Conference and Latina Success Leadership Program. MANA de San Diego’s award-winning, educational programs include mentoring, educational financial support, health & wellness and leadership development.

2018 Association of California School Administrators Partners in Educational Excellence Award

Association of California School Administrators (ACSA), the largest professional association for education leaders in the nation, awarded Mission Fed the Partners in Educational Excellence Award for our exemplary school and community partnership programs. The award recognizes the collaboration with administrators and support of educational programs throughout the Poway Unified School District (PUSD). ACSA serves more than 17,000 California educators and Mission Fed values their dedication to public education.

2018 San Diego County School Boards Association’s DeDe Alpert Award

On April 2018, San Diego County honored educators, parents, community members, board members and support staff who make a difference in the lives of students at the annual Honoring Our Own Awards. Over 500 educational leaders and friends of the educational community participated, where Mission Fed was proud to receive the San Diego County School Boards Association’s DeDe Alpert Award, nominated by Lemon Grove Unified. The honor recognizes Mission Fed’s commitment to educational excellence and exemplary school-community partnership programs in service to administrators, teachers and students.

The Better Business Bureau® of San Diego, Orange and Imperial Counties honored Mission Fed with the 2017 BBB Torch Award for Ethics, in the category of businesses with 500+ employees. The award recognizes Mission Fed for its strong commitment to integrity, customer service and community involvement, and reinforces Mission Fed’s reputation as an organization that is committed to serving our membership and giving back to the local community using ethical business practices. As a member-owned financial institution, we conduct our business with integrity because it’s essential to who we are, what we do and how we do it. We were delighted to accept the BBB Torch Award for Ethics on behalf of our members, community partners, employees and volunteer Board of Directors.

Mission Fed was proud to be recognized with the highest award the San Diego-Imperial Girl Scout Council can bestow on a company: the Community Partner Award. As the 2017 Community Partner Award winner, Mission Fed was acknowledged for its work with Girl Scout programs that encourage financially healthy lifestyles. Our support helps Girl Scouts provide innovative, engaging and affordable leadership development programs for over 23,000 girls in San Diego and Imperial Counties and our partnership affirms our commitment to the San Diego community. The San Diego-Imperial Girl Scout Council is one of the nation’s largest and provides an accepting environment where girls can develop life skills, serve their communities, and grow through new and exciting experiences. A full range of camps, events, virtual programs and travel opportunities are offered for girls to experience independently or within a troop.

Debra Schwartz was named one of San Diego’s most admired CEOs in 2016 for her effective leadership and the success of Mission Fed as a whole, as well as her dedication of time and talent to a variety of non-profit organizations focused on youth, financial literacy and the credit union movement. Mission Fed is a double bottom line organization—serving members and giving back to the local community. Mission Fed achieves this through strategic partnerships with local educational and other nonprofits, financial education for all ages and community events. One of the most recent community partnerships was Mission Fed’s donation of $1 Million in support of Junior Achievement of San Diego County’s Mission Fed JA Finance Park program, focusing on increasing the financial literacy of San Diego high school students.

2015 Women Who Impact San Diego

In 2015, Debra Schwartz was named by the SD Metro magazine as one of the “Women Who Impact San Diego.” Under her leadership, Mission Fed had grown in membership, given back to the community and provided employees with an exceptional salary and benefits program. Throughout her career, Debra has dedicated her time and talent to a variety of nonprofit organizations, focused on youth, financial literacy and the credit union movement. She serves on the executive committee of the National Association of Federal Credit Unions and the governing board of Junior Achievement San Diego.

In celebration of its 30th year, ArtWalk San Diego honored organizations and individuals who have supported it over the years with an Artie Award. Among them was Mission Fed, recognized for our commitment to the San Diego art community and sponsorship of Mission Federal ArtWalk since 2008.

This award, presented by the Association of Fundraising Professionals, San Diego (AFPSD), recognized Mission Fed’s volunteer commitment, financial support, media awareness and board leadership. A group of Mission Fed’s longtime community partners joined to nominate us: Junior Achievement BizTown, Boys & Girls Club of Greater San Diego, San Diego Mighty 1090 AM, The Walrus 105.7 FM, ArtWalk and ArtReach.
